Here we are for yet another Murder, She Wrote installment written by Donald Bain.

This one was just as fun and engaging as previous ones I have read. Award winning? Nope but I don’t mind. It was still well-written and a good distraction from real life.

This is number 30th in the series. I have read about five of the books in the series, never in order and haven’t had an issue jumping right into the story. Each one is like a Murder, She Wrote episode.

In this one we are down south where Jessica has been asked to solve a 40-year old crime. What’s interesting isn’t that she’s been asked to solve such an old crime – it’s that she is asked to do so by a dead woman.

Tillie Mortelaine stipulated in her will that if Jessica wants $1 million for a literacy program the two women started, she will solve the murder of Tillie’s former finance Wanamaker Jones within a month.

Jessica takes the challenge on, despite the anger of family members of Tillie who believe the entire inheritance should come to them.

To make matters even more complicated, there was a ghost hunting couple and a manipulating conman living in Tillie’s mansion at the time of her very strange death. The woman was 91 but she fell down a large flight of stairs and Jessica isn’t sure that it was an accident. She soon wonders if she will have two murders to solve.

If you’re looking for a quick, intriguing read I would definitely recommend this one or any of the other Murder, She Wrote books I have read so far.
