15 Books I Hope To Read This Summer

I have a list of Summer hopeful reads to share today.

Yes, I call my list “hopefuls” because a “to be read list” sounds too much like school to me and takes the fun out of reading.

I need to add that I am a mood reader, so I don’t often stick to the list, even though I have fun making it.

Here is my list for now:

Sad Cypress by Agatha Christie

Pigeon Pie Mystery by Julia Stewart

Clouds of Witness by Dorothy Sayers

The Pink Motel by Carol Ryrie Brink

Thank you, Jeeves by P.G. Wodehouse

Mystery Mile by Margery Allingham

The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain

Murder, She Wrote: Slaying in Savannah by Donald Bain

Travels with Charley by John Steinbeck

The Cat Who Had 60 Whiskers by Lilian Jackson Braun

By the Pricking of My Thumbs by Agatha Christie

ABC Murders by Agatha Christie

The Murder of Roger Ackroyd by Agatha Christie

Miss Buncle’s Book by D.E. Stevenson

The Last Battle by C.S. Lewis

Have you read any of these books? What did you think of them?

So many fun Agatha Christie books! I don’t really have a list this year… though I do have a good dozen of them scattered around the house that I’ve checked out from the library or have gotten through NetGalley that I need to get through soon.

    1. I highly doubt I’ll stick to this list but it helps me to remember some of the books I wanted to get to. I don’t think I’ll actually do one for the rest of the year. I’ll just read whatever I pick up next. I really like lists though. I like making them and then not referring to them at all. 😂😂

  2. I’ve read Tom Sawyer (I love Twain, he was the focus of my senior thesis for my History degree); and The Last Battle (perhaps my least favorite Narnia book, actually) … the Agathas are on my eventual TBR though. I’ve got to read more of her books, because the ones I’ve read I loved!

Also: definitely feel you on calling this Summer Hopefuls! I called mine a summer reading “wishlist” because TBRs are so … limiting, LOL! ;) I also tend to get distracted and sidetracked, because #moodreader and #shinynewbooks :)

    1. Yes, I have heard from some that the last battle isn’t their favorite. I’ll just have to wait and see. So far my favorite is The Magician’s Nephew and of course, The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe.

Same with me on the shiny new books and being a mood reader. I might have something on my list but when I go to pick it up, I don’t feel like it. Maybe it was a mystery but I really want something late and whimsical instead. Or vice versa.

  3. Lisa, I am always amazed with your energy to read and read more. Back in my school days, I read Twain’s The adventures of Tom Sawyer. It would be a pleasure to read it again because I would bring a deeper appreciation of the culture of this time period.

    1. I have read some books as an adult that I read first as a child and reading them now as an adult puts a completely different spin on them. I read To Kill a Mockingbird with my son a few years ago for school and it was definitely a different experience. I cried a lot harder, the second time around. The last time I had read, it was in the eighth grade. Having a lot more knowledge about civil rights, and just life in general made the book even more emotional. It was similar for Lord of the Flies.

And as for having energy to read… well that’s because I don’t have a lot of energy for other things thanks to dealing with some possible autoimmune issues. It’s easier to sit and read! Ha!

  4. I have to laugh because we always come up with a few books that are the same on our lists, despite not having ever mentioned them to each other. I just checked Sad Cypress out from the library last week and it is waiting for me to finish Yesteryear. Lol. I also have By the Pricking of My Thumbs on my list for Halloweentimes.
