Sunday Bookends: Lots of mysteries and warm temps coming up

It’s time for our Sunday morning chat. On Sundays, I ramble about what’s been going on, what the rest of the family and I have been reading and watching, and what I’ve been writing. Some weeks I share what I am listening to.

What’s Been Occurring

 I rambled about what’s been occurring in my post yesterday if you want to read that.

Today I have to drive 45 minutes one way to pick up The Boy from his friend’s house and then we will have lunch at my parents afterward. Then I’m bringing him home to mow our lawn which is crazy high from all the rain we have been having.

The temps are supposed to be hotter this week which I am not actually looking forward to because I don’t enjoy the heat and our AC isn’t ready to go yet. We have to install an extra pipe into the window and set up this whole contraption because we have odd vertical windows. It’s a whole process.

What I/we’ve been Reading

Just Finished:

The Mysterious Affair At Styles (The first book in the Hercule Poirot series) by Agatha Christie.

The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett.

Do the New You by Steven Furtick

Operation Restoration by Kari Trumbo

This week I read that The Secret Garden was written by Burnett after her son died of tuberculosis. This helped me appreciate the book more because I just finished it for the first time with my daughter and I didn’t like the ending. I didn’t hate it but I wanted more. Now that I know the story behind the book I like the ending more because for Frances Colin being able to walk and be alive – like her son couldn’t be – was all she needed us to know.

This week I watched episodes of Newhart, Midsomer Murders, and Brokenwood Mysteries – some with The Husband and some alone.

  1. I’m not on as much, have lots of pre scheduled post up though, so I try to visit my favorite bloggers now and then, same old story. But this week we took our son to Branson Missouri to visit the Titanic museum, he has been wanting to go for awhile. It was actually really nice, we all enjoyed the museum and how it was set up. Maybe I will try to share a post about that later. We are just trying to settle in to our new state we moved to, so different then the desert. The cicadas were crazy loud in Missouri. Everything is so green and beautiful here, so many trees. Have a great week. Now I have to go check some other blogs. I love your photos as always, so I can’t wait to see if you have any new ones, I’ve been away for awhile.

  2. We are hitting records here. I’m already over the heat! I like it in the 70s with low humidity…well, who doesn’t, right? I didn’t know that about the author of The Secret Garden.

    I’m reading a couple of books but not really into them. I’m just so stubborn, I’m going to finish them.

    • I’m sure I would die without AC in Phoenix too. Hopefully this week it won’t be too bad. The AC will be in in a couple of weeks when we get the filters cleaned out I’m sure. Either that or I’ll have to move in with my parents who have a very good AC system 🙂

  4. Is that <emAround the World in 80 Days<em> the Jules Verne book you and The Boy are listening to, or is it something else? If it’s the book, I listened to it as a child and loved it. Have you read/listened to it before? If not, I won’t spoil the ending but it was way cool. I honestly will never ever read <em>1984</em>, it’s too scary.

  6. I did not know that Burnett’s son died before she wrote The Secret Garden. That is important to know.

    The Mysterious Affair At Styles was chosen for our face-to-face book club, but I think we will not read it until the end of the year.

    We are starting to get some days almost in the 90s. Sigh.
