It’s time for our Sunday morning chat. On Sundays, I ramble about what’s been going on, what the rest of the family and I have been reading and watching, and what I’ve been writing. Some weeks I share what I am listening to.
Last night, The Husband, Little Miss, and I went to a theater near us to watch K-Pop Demon Hunters Sing Along on the big screen.
There weren’t as many people as I thought there would be and Little Miss was a bit embarrassed by her old mom singing and trying to dance. I was trying to fill in for her friend who wasn’t able to attend with us.
Afterward we visited one of the last classic Pizza Huts in the country for some dinner.
Here is a video I saw on YouTube that talks about it.
I ordered a salad since I’m not supposed to be eating gluten but I did taste some of the pizza Little Miss and The Husband ordered. Little Miss ordered her own personal pan pizza with green peppers, roasted red peppers, banana peppers and extra cheese. She was so excited to have her own pizza and said, “I can eat the toppings off if I want to since it is my own pizza!”
The Boy was spending the weekend at a friend’s house. It felt weird to go out to eat without him.
Earlier in the week, the Cat Distribution System found us and dropped off an all-black cat. This is strange since all of our pets (the two cats and a dog) are black and white. We are not sure where this kitten came from but it wants in our house and is very lovable. An abandoned house was pulled down on the street below us and my son says a lot of stray cats lived there. We think they are trying to find somewhere warm to go but what I can’t figure out is why this one cat wants to adopt us. We really don’t need anymore pets and feel the cat is probably full of fleas so we’ve placed it our garage with some food and a bed at nights and plan to give it flea medicine today.
My kids had decided in less than five minutes we were adopting the cat while I was still trying to say it could be a neighbors. The cat hasn’t gone home since Thursday, however, and even The Husband who doesn’t even like the cats we have (because he misses the cats we had for 19 years and refuses to open his heart to other cats. Yes, those cats were that old!) has been cradling this cat and suggesting we can make it work with three cats.
Pray for me. I’m losing the battle to keep our household to two cats and a dog.
Erin and I are also hosting a monthly bookish link party called A Good Book and A Cup of Tea. You can find that link up for this month here.
Also, my book Gladwynn Grant Gets Her Footing is available for free in ebook form on Amazon until tomorrow (Monday) night. It’s a cozy mystery:
I am currently reading Hero Debut By Angela Ruth Strong and Rebecca by Daphne De Maurier.

Hero Debut is a romantic comedy and has most of my attention right now as it is light and easy to read.
I’m also reading At Home In Harmony by Phillip Gulley off and on before bed. Each chapter is like a short story of its own and centers around a Quaker pastor.
For November, I am planning on reading a selection of Nancy Drew books for an event I created for fun — Nancy Drew November.
I’ll be listing which books I am going to read in a post later this week.
I am very anxious to read My Beloved by Jan Karon but I think I’m going to wait to start it until further into November so I can read it slowly for the Christmas season.
Last week I watched a movie called Phffft! with Jack Lemmon and Kim Novak. It was funny and cute.
I also watched a couple of The Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew Mysteries episodes.
Last night I watched a couple of episodes of Murder, She Wrote from the early 1990s. It was interesting to see Kevin Sorbo and Mickey Rooney in the two episodes I watched. I’m fairly certain the one actor was Patrick Swazy’s brother. His name was Don and he looked exactly like Patrick so I’d say they were brothers. Of course, Mickey was playing a horse trainer. That’s a role he was used to from his movie days, that is for sure.
Last week on the blog I shared:
- Saturday Afternoon Chat: What comments on a semi-viral post about Angela Lansbury tell me about today’s society and specifically men
- Weekend Traffic Jam Reboot Oct. 31
- Comfy, Cozy Cinema: The Mummy (1999)
- Educationally Speaking: A homeschool update
- Top Ten Tuesday: The ten most recent books I’ve read
Now It’s Your Turn

I’ve had a couple of the K-Pop Demon Hunters songs stuck in my head since my Amazon music Currently Trending playlist decided to bombard me with them when I was walking to meet people or to my friend’s house! We have Pizza Hut here, though many are closing now – I used to love their potato salad in the salad bar, I think the mayonnaise is addictive or something. Happy memories as it was the first non-English/British food I ate as a teen apart from the very occasional Chinese meal and more occasional McDonalds!

Man, I haven’t had a Pizza Hut personal pan in so long … I used to love those things so much!
Sounds like a third cat is yours 🙂

Yeah, I think so. My neighbor did put an ad in the paper to see if anyone is missing a cat, but I don’t think anyone will answer it.

Many years ago, a beautiful calico kitten showed up in our yard and my kids wanted to adopt her immediately. Surely, I said, she must belong to someone nearby because she wanted to be with us constantly and loved curling up on us. Never did find her owners so she became ours. We had her for 15 years before she passed away and she was the BEST cat I ever had (and when I was growing up, we had a lot of cats). I still miss her to this day but haven’t succumbed to adopting another one – even after going to a cat cafe, which was full of adoptable kittens! (More about that someday on my blog.)

The two cats we have now were both strays. One was left at a friends house and we took her in and the other one was a kitten whose mom was killed and a local shelter was offering her for adoption. I love that you shared that story. Our neighbor has put an ad in the weekly paper to see if anyone is missing a cat and it’s the right thing to do but I know the kids will be sad if someone calls.

We never intended to adopt a cat either, but when a 9 oz ball of fluff with matted eyes came running up to my husband after being abandoned by his mother, we were all in.

Congratulations (?) on your new cat. I’m allergic and have no trouble avoiding even the cutest. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

My mom is also allergic but my dad was weak so we had cats when I was growing up but they had to be outside. Now my son is somewhat allergic but has always loved cats so he takes medicine.

My daughter is allergic to cats, so we are basically dog people now. But when I was growing up in the 60s, getting a cat neutered or spayed was unheard of. In fact the thought was that you were mean to the animal if you did that! Crazy! Needless to say, my cat must have had hundreds of kittens over her long life. The pet store at the mall gladly accepted them when we brought them in. But it was always a struggle not to keep the cutest ones! Thanks for stirring a fun memory for me on this painful day! Blessings to you and your family, Lisa! P. S. Pizza Hut was the go-to date night for my husband and I before we married. More fun memories!

I’m allergic to cats (and somewhat to dogs) so I could always pull that card when it came to not getting a cat. 🙂 But we did have dogs forever and I loved them.I grew up reading Nancy Drew books! What a fun challenge you’re creating for reading them.

I always failed to stand up against more pets with my kids. They were very persuasive.
I just saw a sign at our town’s skating rink for K-Pop Demon Hunters, and I was just telling my husband how out of the loop I am…

And now I wish I could have Pizza Hut pizza.

Oh dear about the kitten. I guess the rest of the family will win. Once a long time ago a kitten came to our house and I told my mother that I would fail the exam I was sitting that week if we had to get rid of it! It stayed with them for about 20 years and I was long gone by then!

I absolutely love that your husband is cuddling this kitten and lost his heart to your other cats. My husband is not a pet person at all…something that would have disqualified him had I known (just kidding…sort of). I really do love seeing guys loving on animals. I’m glad you had fun at the movie. When we lived up north, a very rich guy owned almost all of the Pizza Huts in the region. He had started out as a policeman, I think, and took a chance on purchasing one when they were first starting out. They were amazing! The interiors were so much nicer than your regular old Pizza Hut…I’m talking carved wood, wallpaper, and themes! After he died, I’m not sure what happened as we had already moved. He also built this 30,000 sq ft home that you could only see when the trees didn’t have leaves because he’d build mounds around it! It was for sale a few years ago for something like $20 million! And, no, we didn’t buy it! I would have loved to have gone through it, though.

Good luck with the kitten – but I sense that it’s a battle you’re destined to lose. Have a great week, Lisa:).

My husband and daughter gave her a bath today and put flea medicine on her. I seem to have already lost. Sigh.

Good luck with the cat! I hope you all don’t get fleas 😉 And, if it belongs to someone else, I hope you all find out before everyone gets super attached. Have a good week!

Yes to all of this but we did treat her for fleas today because I’m losing this battle fast!
