It’s time for our Sunday morning chat. On Sundays, I ramble about what’s been going on, what the rest of the family and I have been reading and watching, and what I’ve been writing. Some weeks I share what I am listening to.
This past week was a fairly relaxed one until yesterday.
Little Miss needed some cheering up, so I suggested that after I picked up a friend of The Boy’s we head up to the town where we used to live to watch The Minecraft movie.
The kids were excited but since I wasn’t really interested in watching the movie, so instead I headed to an Italian Deli and Bakery near the theater after I dropped them off and picked up some cookies and cannoli, headed back to the park across from the theater and sat in my car reading books and eating fudge filled cookies.
Well, I ate one cookie actually and then I ate some string cheese and drank a natural ginger ale. It was nice and relaxing, as the rain fell around me.
One weird thing and funny thing that happened while I was sitting in the car: a car pulled up next to me and parked and then three people got out – they looked to be about the age of a mom, a dad, and maybe a 12-year-old boy. The park has a sidewalk that goes all the way around, and this family started walking on the sidewalk and then walked all the way on the other side of it toward the hospital, which is across the street from the park. They disappeared from my sight, so I went back to my book. About ten minutes later they passed in front of my car again, and I noticed all of them were looking at their phones. The mom said something to the boy, and he laughed, but they kept their eyes on their phones.
Then they started another loop around the park. I thought maybe they were playing something like Pokemon Go (is that still a thing), but they were just walking in a circle, staring at their phones.
They did this four more times, then crossed the street near the gas station, came back again, walked to their car, got in and left.
It was kind of, well, creepy … and funny. I have no idea what was going on, but it felt like some kind of Twilight Zone episode. Part of me wanted to ask them what was going on, but in this day and age, I think it is just better not to know.
For some reason, the movie didn’t start for almost 45 minutes after it was supposed to start so we got home a lot later than I wanted to. Remember when I told you last week that to get anywhere with places like theaters we have to drive 45 minutes north, south, east or west? To get to the theater, we had to drive 45 minutes north and then 45 minutes back home.
I was pretty tired by the end of the day and ready for my blanket and tea.
I didn’t actually have tea when I got home, and the evening wasn’t as relaxed as I wanted but maybe I can find some relaxation tonight instead.
This past week I finished Chocolate Chip Cookie Murder by Joanne Fluke and The Horse and His Boy by C.S. Lewis.

I am still reading The Two Towers by J.R.R. Tolkien and enjoying it.
I am also reading All Things Wise and Wonderful by James Herriot.
Next week I am going to be looking for another mystery but I might step out of my comfort zone and try a Christian regency romance by Joanna Davidson Politano. We will see how that goes.
I forgot to ask The Husband what he is reading before I wrote this. He’s taking a brief nap after a busy morning so I’ll update this later or share next week.
Little Miss and I are going to be finishing up The Littlest Voyageur this week for school and she is finishing up the third Harry Potter book.
I had to step away from Great Canal Journeys. It was becoming too heartbreaking to watch with Pru’s mental and physical health declining.
Pru is the wife of the canal riding team and it’s starting to really wear on me to watch her forget what she’s doing some days. I have elderly parents and them developing dementia is a huge worry for me.
Last week I watched How to Steal A Million as part of the Springtime in Paris feature I am doing with Erin from Still Life, With Cracker Crumbs.
You can still jump in to watch the movies on the list and write about them. We have a link up where you can link to your posts until May 10th. The link and our list of movies and where you can find them can be found at the link at the top of my page.
This week we are watching Paris Blue with Paul Newman (swoon), Joanne Woodward, Sidney Poitier, and Diahann Carroll.
Last week on the blog I shared:
- Weekend Traffic Jam Reboot! Come Link Up With Us!
- Springtime in Paris: How To Steal A Million
- A recap and thoughts on The Hardy Boys 1977 episode “The Mystery of Witches Hollow”
When I am doing dishes during the week, I listen to The Two Towers by J.R.R. Tolkien, and the rest of the week, I read it.

Those cookies sound wonderful. The phone thing does sound a bit weird but to be honest, it also shows just how attached people are to them. We have been watching The Bondsman on Amazon Prime which is pretty good if you like supernatural type stuff. Hope you have a wonderful week!

I was wondering if they might be counting steps but if so why were all three looking at their phones at the same time? 🤣 I will never know! Hope you have a good week too.

The Horse and his Boy is my favorite Narnia book, and so different from the others. Here’s my Monday post: https://bonniereadsandwrites.com/2025/04/14/its-monday-what-are-you-reading-9/comment-page-1/#respond

Sounds like a busy week. I’m glad to be living in a city of 80,000 people. There are tons of things to do that aren’t at all far away. Now I just have to convince myself to get up off my couch and do them. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

It can be hard to get motivated no matter where we live 😂 Thanks for stopping by.

Completely understandable to move away from the canal journeys and not want to watch that happening to Pru. I had to cancel doing a beta read for a friend on a book about recovering from her husband passing – that aspect is bad enough but I realised there was a dementia theme too and with my father-in-law going down that route (and realising how long he’s been on that path as my husband clears the house and finds all the stuff he bought and bought over and over again) I couldn’t do it. My friend was kind about it.
Where I grew up it was a 45 min bus journey to the cinema but not always possible to get back so someone had to learn to drive at 17 out of our friendship group! We could go closer but there it was a sports hall “cinema” and the seats came down on an apparatus from the wall!

Oh, Liz, that would be so hard. So far dementia hasn’t touched my family but it’s a real worry for me. I will eventually go back and finish up the show but I just need a bit of a break.

I hope that you guys like The Littlest Voyageur! I thought it was a good way to handle the fur trade.

We like it so far. We will be finishing it tomorrow.

I probably would have asked…I’m curious to know why people do the things they do and I don’t mind asking.
Oh that cookie! I wonder if I could make something like that.

It’s so good. They used to be fatter and there was more dough around it and then the fudge in the middle. These were still very good!

My first thought was geocaching as well, but Pokémon GO is still a thing as well even if player numbers went down.
Against my habit, I’m on three books at the time, an Allingham, a Muller I had missed and a YA novel from the early 20th century.

Maybe it was Pokémon – I wish I had asked!

That is really a strange thing. Do you suppose they were geo-caching? Maybe a timed race kinda thing? I don’t know, but I’ll be wondering for a long time. I finally finished The Grey Wolf by Louise Penny. It ended with a cliffhanger which is a good thing and a bad thing. It means she’ll be (or is) writing another book, but I’ll have to wait for it to be finished and all that. We finally finished “Legacies” which had a very unsatisfactory conclusion. I mean, I think we’ve been watching if for about six weeks, every night. I did read that the writer wasn’t happy about its cancellation so maybe she had a different ending in mind. We’re now watching “Hacks” and “The Righteous Gemstones.” I think I may have watched a movie in there, too.

I always hate reading a book with a cliffhanger unless I can get my hands on the next book fairly fast.
I am behind on all the shows that are popular now. I’ll probably watch them ten years from now like I have other series.

I enjoyed the the early Hannah Swensen books. And I’m a big Narnia fan. Nice to see others enjoying them.

I’ll probably try another Hannah Swensen even though I felt the ending of the first was super rushed. People told me the end of my first book was too so what do I know anyhow? 😂😂

That’s a long way to travel to get to a movie theatre. I am lucky to have a theatre 5 min drive away.

Pokemon Go is still a thing apparently, but like you, I probably wouldn’t have asked what was going on with that family!
Have a great week.

We watched The Great Canal Journeys and it was beautiful scenery. But you are right, it was hard to watch Pru’s memory loss progressing. We loved her in Fawlty Towers, so it was kind of a shock to see the change. Although I’m sure it’s the same for people who haven’t seen my husband and I for awhile! So many changes as we age. It’s so important to be thankful for the days we do have together.

Oh yes, changes happen to all of us, of course. I watched her on Fawlty Towers too and I knew she would age but it was just hard to watch it every night so I am just spacing it out a little bit from now on. I think I only have a couple more episodes to get to the end of their time on the show.

How nice to have a few quiet moments, enjoying a snack and reading-until it wasn’t. That was really weird. I hope you do find some relaxing time. My grandson really enjoys the Lord of the rings! I really enjoyed the Chronicles of Narnia series! Need to read that again 🙂 I hope indeed that you have a relaxing rest of your weekend/week!

I had a nice day today playing a game with my daughter and parents so that was relaxing at least.
I am re-reading the Chronicles of Narnia which I haven’t read since I was probably 10-years-old. I am really enjoying them — it is weird to say I think I am enjoying them more now? It’s like Lewis’s quote: ““Some day you will be old enough to start reading fairy tales again.”
I think I am old enough again. 😉
I hope you have a great week again.
