Saturday Afternoon Chat: Weird day, little libraries, and I started a YouTube shorts channel

Our temps have remained mild this week which means I can still enjoy a warm cup of tea without making myself overheated. Today I am sipping peppermint tea with honey. Yes, I am a creature of habit.

Yesterday was one of the weirdest days I have had in a long time. It was one stressful thing after another and it didn’t let up all day. I won’t detail all of that stress here because some of it relates to private matters for others but I would literally hang up the phone and someone else would call with another situation. Thankfully none of it was at an emergency level and everyone is fine physically and no one is in the hospital. But, still, wow!

The other weird thing is that everyone I talked to was having a weird day too or my weirdness rubbed off on them. It was … to keep using the same word … weird.

By last night I was just sitting and staring at a type of emotional numbness from it all.

One good thing yesterday had going for it was that it was a beautiful day.

Little Miss and I traveled 20 minutes north to pick up our groceries and stopped by a couple of little libraries on the way back. Unfortunately, I only found two books and neither of them was very exciting. One is the autobiography of Michael J. Fox.

I was able to unload some of my books too, however.

The one little library is located along the Susquehanna River, on a river walk.

The other is an old British phone box and I’m really not sure where it came from but it is the makeshift library in the little town I went to school in. Their very old library was washed away in a flood several years ago. Little Miss wanted to pose in the little library so I snapped a photo of her.

Thankfully the weather is beautiful again today so hopefully I can perk up some.

Little Miss has a friend over and they have already had some fun jumping on the neighbor’s trampoline, sliding on the Slip N’ Slide, throwing water balloons, and just hanging out together.

The Boy helped my dad lift a headstone at the little cemetery down the road from Dad’s house and then helped a man who restores and cleans some headstones at another cemetery.

The Husband is, sadly, working.

Later I hope to be reading, which I tried to do a lot of this week. I didn’t even watch a lot of TV but I do hope to watch an old movie tonight because I miss old movies. I haven’t watched any in the last few months.

Thursday was our last day of homeschooling and I’m grateful for the break. I will probably start a few lessons in July but nothing too major until August.

The Boy’s technical school is out but he has a few English and History assignments to finish up for me. He will be a senior next year and Little Miss will be a fourth grader.

I haven’t yet told all of you that I’ve started a YouTube channel (just shorts for now) and a paid Substack – so I am telling you know now because I have to admit to all my regular readers that I have no idea what I am doing. I also have no specific goals for the channel or the paid Substack. You can also follow me for free on substack, which will be where I post my monthly writing update (which is free), and will soon be posting sneak peeks and other goodies for paid subscribers.

I will be sharing my main blogging here, however, because I feel like WordPress is my safe little haven where I’m just free to be weirdo me. Not that I won’t also be weird on Substack because I can’t get the weird out of me.

(Today’s post is sponsored by word weird. We’ve all been weird or known someone who is weird. If you too would like to be weird, then visit this blog often and learn more about how you too can be weird.)

One thing I don’t really like paying attention to with all these social media sites is stats. Stats are very suffocating. I just want to have fun making videos or sharing about what books I’m reading or – yes – sharing about the books I’ve written. After doing a little analyzing and looking at stats this week I was reminded again that numbers don’t mean anything if connections are not made and relationships are not formed. I was also reminded I’d rather have the connections and relationships than the numbers, which is why I’m going to post only when I feel like it and not think I have to post all the time to “build a following.”

The only one who should be followed is Jesus and he doesn’t keep track of his stats in numbers but in hearts so I think I’ll just follow him and worry less about numbers on a screen.

Now that we are out of school, I don’t know what we are doing.

Nope. I don’t know what we are doing next week at all.

The week after this upcoming week we will be going to meet with the kid’s homeschool evaluator and then the rest of that week there is an art class being held by the local 4-H. There will be a horse and pony club meeting that Friday night as well.

So that week will be fairly busy.

I’m a hermit in the summer sometimes because I don’t handle the hot temps well. Or my body doesn’t at least.

I lock myself up in air conditioning as much as possible to avoid, well, fainting. Ha.

I do hope we can get to a couple outside events this summer – including a pool or two and maybe an aquarium that Little Miss has been asking to go to.

How was your week last week?

Are the temps warm or cool where you are?

What are you drinking these days? Warm or cool drinks or a mix of both like me?

Let me know in the comments.

  1. Little Miss is cute!
I also go in hermit mode during summers especially during heatwaves. I pull off dark curtains to keep stingy rays at bay.

At the moment, we are done with heatwave and now entering monsoon which is my fav.

  2. Little free libraries are great, aren’t they? I enjoy seeing them on our travels. Be assured if you’re weird, there are plenty more of us weirdos out here with you. 😉 We were traveling over Memorial Day – hot weather and tornados around us, but we were fine. Came home to chilly temps. Getting ready to take a big road trip, so I’ll be offline for awhile. Oh, btw, I don’t pay any attention to stats. Connections mean so much more!!

  3. I try to ignore stats. Here’s a little story: My husband was bragging to his family about how many views I’ve had on my blog, and my niece got quiet and her mom told us that my niece had made a one-minute Tik-Tok video about the trash that filled her friend’s car and it got a million views in one week. That put me in my place.

    • 😂😂 oh my gosh so funny! It is so bizarre the things that will take off on social media and the things that won’t! I had 8.3 million views on Instagram of a clip of Judi Dench, Maggie Smith and Jane Plowright. I did not get it. I mean I liked the clip but — that many views??? I wish I was monetized in some way. 😂

  5. I love your attitude with your new site on YouTube. Just have fun with it and don’t worry about followers and the pressure of that. Better to see who else is out there that is just as weird as everyone else lol…and I like that word.
It’s warming up here. Right now I am in the Ozarks, enjoying this new world…but I am not familiar with tornadoes and humidity. The county we are in was hit with several tornadoes a couple weeks ago, or was it one week ago. Our little city was spared, but we were surrounded by 9 tornadoes popping in and out all around us when all was said and done. As you know, I’m an Arizona girl, so that was quite the experience. I love how green it is everywhere, just not loving some of these storms that roll in.
I want to build a little library. I think they are so adorable. Maybe I will look into building one in our neighborhood. Maybe a little art studio and leave art inside for people, or kits and craft supplies.

    • I forgot you moved! I’m so behind on reading blogs. I miss when I could comment on your blog.

I want a little library so bad but my son says it is stupid because our town has a library. That is not the point of one but he doesn’t seem to get it. He’s been taking classes in building and construction so I have told him I want that to be his senior project for me. He’s considering it but says he will still make fun of me for it. He seem to like to tease me. *wink*

one with art supplies in it would be so cool!

Also…the storms down that way have sounded so terrifying!!

      • My laptop crashed and finally died, been offline for weeks now. I finally got a replacement. I am trying to catch up on everything. It is annoying to have comments off. I may wait a few months and see what happens when I turn them back on but I have an estranged family member that lurks and waits for comments to be on to write really disturbing comments to me and also just her baiting me to have conflicts with her…done it since we were kids, and I am not the only one…but I am the one she has obsessed the most about. at least it seems that way, just my opinion. She finally found my blog after years of searching for me on social media.

I think that would be so cool for your son to build you a little library, I know it will be the best little library out there. I went to a book sale awhile back and I thought of that short clip of yours where you and your friend were going book shopping, that made me laugh.

The storms are scary here but in the little town we are in they seem to pass by, we are up in the hills I guess. I pray and hope the locals are right about that, otherwise we will continue on our way searching for a place to settle for our children to have a better life

Phoenix got really bad…really BAD. We were on the outskirts of Glendale Arizona and Phoenix…the border of those two areas. Right now where we are, our son is attending a university here. He is studying something hard to me…I am not an academic…he is studying Micro biology.

It is also difficult finding a university we can trust. I believe we found one, but we are being careful with our location because of my stalking cousin…she is really obsessive.

Something happened a few days ago, certain universities around our country had a cyber attack…seems they were all Christian. I have to look more into it, I might be wrong. But my daughter attended one in Phoenix. I believe it’s the largest one in our country and it was having all kinds of issues, everything was shut down…then that same day my son’s university also has the same issues happening. I wonder if the non Christian universities also got it.

Anyway, it is beautiful here and I am just so happy we aren’t dealing with house fires and drones flying around our city at night. The city of Phoenix uses drones for No go areas, and they also use water drones too for certain areas where there are man made lakes.

It is a scary city with driver less cars that go the wrong way, hit and runs everywhere. random fires always set when people are sleeping in their homes. They even have those scary robot dogs, but for now they are only using them for certain types of threats…I don’t want to write that here.

The worse is the perversion of people doing whatever they want in the middle of the day. Depending on where you call from, you may get the cops, or you may not. My daughter and son, we all had to deal with the Fentanyl addicts doing things out in public that were horrible…in front of children, in the middle of the day…it was horrible and rated triple x if you know what I mean, and it happened all the time. Yet Phoenix media still portrays it as the best place to move to…don’t…I would tell everyone…don’t.

  6. I had to chuckle because that’s the exact word I used to describe our weather lately…weird! I’m sorry you had such an emotionally exhausting day. We just continue to deal with Mike’s health issues, and some days, I don’t even feel like getting out of bed because I know it will be the same old, same old.

I’ve been drinking ice water with lemon Crystal light added as I don’t like water that much to begin with, and we have really awful water anyway.

I love the idea of Little Libraries as much as I love Blessing Boxes. It’s such a beautiful way to share without the need for a pat on the back and to help someone who needs it. But, I love that British phone booth one! That will hold a lot of books!

I agree with you on stats. First of all, I really don’t understand them that well. Second, I would love my blog to gain subscribers, but only because of that connection you talk about. I love responding to comments and emails. I do Instagram because it’s one of those have to things…and, I still can’t get over myself and that last Instagram reel!!! I feel so awkward doing those so I just leaned into it. How do I find your YouTube channel? I didn’t know you could do only shorts there.

    Have a fabulous Sunday, Lisa!

      • Yes, Mike is Nigel. It all started as a joke because Nigel Barker used to be the photographer on America’s Next Top Model. I don’t even know if that’s still on the air. Mike got a kick out of being called Nigel so I keep calling him that.

        • I forgot who Nigel Barker was so I had to look him up and then I remembered. Oooh-la-la. Ha!

So that clears up that confusion for me. Either way, I pray you get some answers soon. Is he in pain when he walks or just can’t walk?

  7. Love the little library in the British phone box. But it is a shame that their old library washed away in a flood! I’ve been drinking hot tea and then cold tea as the weather can’t make up it’s mind! First it’s very warm & sunny, and then we have cold rain for days. Maybe we are getting our April showers now? I hope you have a few days of less stress. We had a weird day like that too, except it was on Thursday here. I’m thankful that lifted some! ❤️

    • It was so sad when the library washed away. It had hundreds of years of history inside. Heartbreaking!

The weather was like that for us too. I actually liked the cold, I hate to say it. The only time I didn’t was when the temps got so low they said they could freeze plants and I know it could have killed my peonies or the buds for our wild roses. I was out there covering them up and looking ridiculous doing it.
