I meant to share this earlier today on my Sunday Bookends post but I don’t think there is anything wrong with sharing it in a separate post.
This is a video I slapped together of my grandfather (my dad’s dad) singing at the fairgrounds near us sometime in the late ’60s or early ’70s.
We spent the day with my dad looking through old photographs and I’m sure I’ll share some of them in a post later this week or next.
I hope you all had a great Father’s Day and were able to either spend it with yours or remember your father or a father figure in your life today.

This is such a wonderful video and recording of your grandfather. I don’t even have the tape recording of my wedding because my son recorded over it! It’s one of those things we laugh about now. The recording was really bad so it wasn’t a big deal for us.

I have two or three other songs but I don’t have videos for them yet. It is really nice that we have them. There used to be recordings of my other grandfather but some of our family didn’t like him so they threw the recordings away, sadly.

I have recordings of my grandpa we made somewhere. All the video I had of him is gone sadly.

My dad says he has some reel-to-reels of my grandfather and I would really love to see them because I heard so much about Grandpa but never had a chance to really meet him since I was 2 when he died.
I’d love to have some videos of my maternal grandmother too. He was a hard man and abusive to his family at times but there were also some good things about him. It wasn’t cut and dry like some of the family wanted to say it was. He was most likely suffering from some mental issues and had been abused himself. It wasn’t sexual abuse, but some physical – not to the point of his children being beat until they had to go to the hospital or something, thank God, but still . . . not a great situation. My mom loved him despite his faults and he apologized for those faults before he died, wishing he could make it up to them all. Some family members, though, never accepted that apology. I think later in life they had their own apologies to pass out and realized how easy it is to be judged for their past mistakes. They were the ones who threw the tapes away, sadly.
