It’s time for our Sunday morning chat. On Sundays, I ramble about what’s been going on, what the rest of the family and I have been reading and watching, and what I’ve been writing. Some weeks I share what I am listening to.
Even to your old age and gray hairs I am he, I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you
Isaiah 46:4 NIV
I need this verse right now. There is a lot going on in my life these days but I’ll write about that in another post someday.
For now, I’ll share that Friday was a weird day. I spent it painting rocks with my daughter in our yard and that ended when a bumble bee took off after me and I mean took off. It had it in for me. It stung me twice in the stomach after climbing down my pants (yes, my pants) and then proceeded to come after me again when I brushed it off, climbing in my shirt under my arm and stinging me again right after it crawled all over my face.
And, yes, it was a bumble bee and not a yellow jacket. It was possessed.
Surprisingly, the stings actually didn’t hurt hardly at all. They were swollen and red and I was convinced I was going to have a reaction because I’m a hypochondriac freak but in the end I was okay.
What sucked was how I was being brave and pushing aside some of my weird physical symptoms I deal with on a daily basis and playing with Little Miss in the yard and this is what happened.
That’s sort of my life story. I’ve always been afraid to fly. One day I probably will, and — well … let’s not even go there, shall we?
The thing is, that little bumblebee was actually cute. When I looked down at my waistband he was peering up over it at me all fluffy and cute. Then I started screaming and he flew off and came back at me full force. Looks can truly be deceiving.
The Unlikely Yarn of the Dragon Lady and Carry On, Jeeves.
This week I will be reading But First, Murder by Bee Littlefield and A Nancy Drew Mystery, The Password to Larkspur Lane.
Little Miss and I are reading The Good Master by Karen Seredy and at night we are listening to The Voyage of the Dawn Treader by C.S. Lewis, but I’ve either been too tired or can’t hear it well, so I’ve missed the whole story. Luckily it is one of my planned fall reads.
The Husband is reading Hostage by Robert Crais.
The Boy is listening to Red Tide, a Warhammer book.
We got Netflix for a month and only a month. The price for that service is absolutely nuts to me. My daughter wanted to watch KPop Demon Hunters and my husband and I want to watch The Thursday Murder Club.
I did watch Find Me Falling, a movie with Harry Connick Jr. that I had heard about earlier this year. It was okay. It used a trope I totally hate, and there were parts that fell flat to me, but it was heartwarming and that was what I needed.
Last week, I also watched The Long Hot Summer for the Summer of Angela and then several Murder, She Wrote episodes. I was very disappointed in one, though, where Jessica let the murderer go because he was old and a friend, and the victim was a member of the mob.
I also watched another episode of Ludwig.
Tonight, we are watching the new Superman movie because The Husband and The Boy watched it and loved it. Little Miss saw it with them but wasn’t terribly impressed.
This week on the blog I shared:
- Summer of Angela: The Long Hot Summer
- Weekend Traffic Jam Reboot Template August 22
- A review of the movie and book versions of The Scarlet Pimpernel (yes, there are spoilers)
I’m still plugging away on Gladwynn Grant Goes Back to School as well.

What a story! That little bee was relentless – I’ve never been stung on my stomach and having a bee fly around my face would freak me out, I think. I’m so glad you are okay! Your story reminds me of the first time our oldest was stung – she saw a “cute” bee on the screen door and decided to pet it! Needless to say, the bee did not enjoy the attention! Thanks for mentioning our “Croissant Smores” post! We’re sharing those with the crew at the lake this weekend!

Oh my gosh! That story is so funny but they really can be cute. Especially the bumblebees.

Oh my goodness; what a determined little bee! I was stung by some sort of wasp/bee today and boy did I not remember what stings feel like. It had been ages since I’d been stung and my whole finger swelled up! I’m glad you didn’t have any adverse reactions but yikes. It could certainly make me think twice about playing outside (on a side note I was stung inside my house while cleaning…).

Oh, my goodness, Lisa! I mean, I can understand one sting or two since he was in your clothing. But, it does sound like it really meant to get you and only you. I know you drink honey in your tea…maybe it smelled that? How very strange? So, how did you like The Unlikely Yarn of the Dragon Lady? We watched Happy Gilmore 2 and actually laughed out loud a couple of times. I’m not a big Adam Sandler fan, but this had a nice little undercurrent of family love that I fell for. I read The Willows after Erin recommended it. What a strange and unnerving book!

It was just so weird! I don’t know what was going on but it was actually really scary. I’m wary to even go out to my car now and go past that part of the yard!
I really liked The Unlikely Yarn of the Dragon Lady. I should have said that but I am going to try to write a review at some point. It was very heartwarming and emotional. I cried quite a bit. I wanted something different to happen at the end but it was more realistic the way it did happen.
I have not seen Happy Gilmore 2 yet and it’s been years since I’ve seen the first. I’m glad you enjoyed it!

Yikes about the bee. Looks like you are reading some good books and watching some good shows and movies. I am not a big Superman fan so not watching that but all the little people are really big on the KPOP movie. I want to watch the Murder Club but am currently watching Four Seasons.. the Tina Fey show.

Oh my word, that bumble bee experience. I didn’t even know they could sting that many times. I saw one yesterday one did fly my way and I backed right off, but I have never worried about them. Now I will be looking at them in a slightly different way!

What a shame about the bee! I haven’t been stung for ages but when I last was it was a wasp and I was walking up a hill to my empty flat, about to finish cleaning it ready to sell. So I did not have anything to treat a wasp sting with to hand! So annoying.
I refuse to watch the Thursday Murder Club because I don’t like half of the casting, also Book 4 quite upset us both so not sure we want to see that. Have you read the books? If not, you’ll realise why we weren’t keen!
We just finished Welcome to Wrexham because someone in it was doing a marathon and I wanted to know if they did it! That was on Disney+ and I think we cancel that now and take out AppleTV so we can watch Ted Lasso and the new Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman travel adventure. It’s exhausting keeping track of all the TV services!

I didn’t read the books of the Thursday Murder Club but know someone who did and said they thought the casting was perfect. I have the first book on my shelf so I might start with it. We never seem to get around to the shows we think we want to watch anyhow.
There are so many shows and we rotate streaming services frequently so we don’t have so many crazy bills.
I haven’t heard of that travel show but I’ve always liked Ewan McGregor — he just seems like a real person — not sure how to explain that. I’ll have to look for that show if we get Apple TV.

They did Long Way Round years ago now where they went round the world on motorbikes, then Long Way Down which was to the tip of Africa. Last year or the year before they did South America, so it’s nice they’ve got another one going. There are books, too, of course there are books.

Did you take a photo of the bee? I’m very curious about such an aggressive one. I really didn’t realize (and, honestly, I still don’t know much) that there are so many different kinds of pollinators, including many who are solitary (not hive-living) and some who are native versus non-native. I am so sorry you were a target.
We dropped Netflix for BritBox (we bought it for a whole year at a great price) a few months ago. Of course since then everything anyone tells us about is on Netflix! Oh well. Such is life.

I told my mom I wish I had gotten a photo because he was freaking cute with his cute little face looking over my waistband after he stung me but I was too busy trying not to get stung again. lol!
We won’t have Netflix long. I’ve never really been a fan of them to be honest. We have a monthly fee for britbox but it’s going to go up this month so we have to decide what to do. Probably drop Acorn for a bit until we have time to sit down and finish the latest season of Brokenwood. It gets confusing to try to keep u with all the different services and not break the bank on them. There just isn’t time to watch everything anyhow – especially because my husband and I’ve been reading more this summer.

Oh I should add that I do know he was a bumblebee of some sort and my son confirmed that and that the thing was trying to get at me. He said it was pretty bizarre.

Oh dear what an ending to a summer afternoon that was! It seems to me that these critters are getting more vicious every year! So glad you are ok and didn’t have an allergic reaction! Thank you for sharing my post. I am still keeping you in my prayers. Blessings on your coming week ahead. ❤️

I read something about them being used for cross-polinating (can’t seem to spell that) for honey bees or something, which is making them more aggressive but I was too tired and didn’t want to go down that rabbit hole — or bee hives. har. Har.

I’m not a new reader but will be glad to comment. It’s great how you are encouraging your family to read. I wish I had done more of that while my kids were growing up🤗. I am currently reading Unearthing Christmas, by Anthea T. Piscark. This was written by a friend of my husband, and he wanted my opinion. I will let you know more about it as I progress. I am awaiting the delivery of your book Cassie: Apron Strings Series, Book Eight, from Amazon. Kind of bittersweet as there are only two books written by you left for me to read, and I cannot find Quarantined. Have a great day….stay away from cute bees!!
