Weekend Traffic Jam Reboot Nov. 14

Welcome to the Weekend Traffic Jam Reboot, where we offer a place for bloggers to link up and get a fresh set of eyes on their posts. We also feature one blog a week, letting our readers know about the blog and providing a link so readers can learn more about it. Please feel free to post new blog posts or old ones you want to bring attention to again.

Look for the post to go live about 9:30 PM EST on Thursdays.

I hope you are all having a great week. We had our first snowfall this week. I knew we might get some flurries but on Tuesday we actually had a full covering.

If the temps weren’t enough to show me that Winter is here, that was.

We plan to light our woodstove for the first time today. We had to replace some piping so hopefully it all goes okay. By the time you read this, we should know if it is working okay.

Now, let’s introduce our current hosts for the Weekend Traffic Jam Reboot:

Marsha from Marsha in the Middle started blogging in 2021 as an exercise in increasing her neuroplasticity.  Oh, who are we kidding?  Marsha started blogging because she loves clothes, and she loves to talk or, in this case, write!

Melynda from Scratch Made Food! & DIY Homemade Household  – The name says it all, we homestead in East Texas, with three generations sharing this land. I cook and bake from scratch, between gardening and running after the chickens, and knitting!

Lisa from Boondock Ramblings shares about the fiction she writes and reads, her faith, homeschooling, photography and more.

Cat from Cat’s Wire is a bookworm, movie fan, crazy cat lady, armed with beads, cabs, wire and a very jumpy brain which loves to go down rabbit holes!

Rena from Fine, Whatever writes about style, midlife, and the “fine whatever” moments that make life both meaningful and fun. Since 2015, she’s been celebrating creativity, confidence, and finding joy in the everyday.

We would love to have additional Co-Hosts to share in the creativity and fun! If you think this would be a good fit for you and you like having fun (come on, who doesn’t!) while still being creative, drop one of us an email and someone will get back with you!

WTJR will be highlighting a different blogger each week this year! We invite you to stop by their blog, take a look around and say hello!

This week we are spotlighting: Bemused and Bookish

A little about Olivia:

I’m an American expat who lives in Shëngjin, Albania with my exceptional husband, and a 7 pound chiweenie who rules the household. (I swear he was a cat in another life.) I love picking up shells on the beach, sunsets, learning about my new country, interacting with blogging community, and of course books!

I will read most genres. Mystery and science fiction are my favorites. I tend to avoid romances. My all-time favorite books are Project Hail Mary and the Murderbot series.

I add books to my to-be-read list almost daily and it is long enough to last me the rest of my life.

Thank you so much for joining us for our link-up!

And now some posts that were highlights for me this past week:

|| Host A Dessert and Coffee Open House, A Lovely Way to Say Welcome by Scratch Made Food for Hungry People ||

|| Before by A New Lens ||

|| Creating A Charming New Cottage: The Kitchen by The Apple Street Cottage||

|| Throwback Tuesday: Letting Kids Take The Lead in Homeschooling by My Slices of Life ||

Important things to know about the link-up:

Good grief, Pennsylvania. What is with this super cold weather even before November hit? Wait. That’s pretty normal, I just don’t like to remember it because I’m not a fan of cold unless I can be inside wrapped up in a blanket? Oh. I see.

Well, anyhow, winter is upon us at the moment it seems as our temps dip into the low 30s and high 20s at night.

This gives us extra snuggle time with the pets who like to snuggle at the most inconvenient times these days. I’ll take it, though, because I always look forward to when they slow down a little and let me cuddle them a little bit. They had plenty of time to cuddle as I am writing this because it is pouring outside.

Nothing compares to starting the day with a fresh, warm cup of coffee, to get the energy and focus one needs to tackle the day ahead.

I have been fortunate enough to have lived two totally different lives in two distinct cities, providing me with an exceptional opportunity to learn from both. The experiences I have gained through these two vastly different worlds have taught me invaluable lessons that I am eager to share these with you.

Comfy, Cozy Cinema: The Five Year Engagement

Erin from Still Life, With Cracker Crumbs and I are hosting Comfy, Cozy Cinema again this year and up this week was The Five-Year Engagement.

I am going to share right off the bat that this was not the movie for me. Erin enjoys it (though she had not watched in a long time and forgot some of the aspects of it) and you can find a more positive view of it on her blog.

Disclaimer: The fact I did not enjoy it is NOT an attack on anyone who did enjoy it. All views expressed here are my own opinions on the movie only. I don’t think anyone is awful for enjoying it. It simply was not my cup of tea. Everyone has different tastes.

I probably should have researched this one a little more when I agreed to watch it because it really wasn’t a movie I’d normally watch. It also was not cozy at all to me personally, but it probably has some sentimental value to others.

For my regular readers who know I usually recommend books and shows without a ton of swearing and crude “jokes” or references, you can know I don’t recommend this one because that’s the majority it.

When I did finally look up the movie this morning, I learned that it featured “more than 205 obscenities and profanities and lots of verbal sexual humor.”

Yeah. I really need to look this stuff up before I go into a movie. *wince*

I am  not going to sit here and say that I do not swear. I certainly do. I wish I didn’t, but I do. I’m in a deep depression this week and have sworn about ten times already today (and asked God to forgive me).

Despite that personal flaw confessional moment, movies that throw swear words in for no reason aren’t my thing.

Here is a bit of a description of the movie from online:

“On their one-year anniversary, sous chef Tom Solomon (Jason Segel) plans to surprise his girlfriend, Violet Barnes (Emily Blunt), with an engagement ring. The lovers do end up engaged, but the fact that the proposal does not go exactly as planned proves to be a harbinger of things to come. Each time they try to set a date, various obstacles stand in their way. As more and more time passes, Tom and Violet begin to wonder if perhaps their marriage is not meant to be.”

The movie is rated R, so a lot of it the languag and sex scenes are to be expected but I just wasn’t comfortable with the level of crudeness or how many times I had to see Jason Segel having sex. Eek.

Also, Jason Segel plays pretty much the same character in every movie or TV show he has ever been in so if you like him in other movies or TV shows you should like this – just add a few more penis jokes, f-words, and views of his naked butt.

Again, Erin has more positive reasons she enjoyed the film (and I totally get her reasons!) so you can check out her views and more information on her blog here:

Next week we are writing about The Young In Heart (1938), starring Douglas Fairbanks Jr.

The other movies we will be watching are on this list:

This week we are spotlighting: Bettie G’s RA Seasons!

A little about Bettie:

I’ve been blogging for a few years now, and thought it would be fun to share a little more of who I am with all of you.And in the process, I hope that you will feel comfortable to share a little of your story with me as well.

I was raised in a Christian home, and my Mom told me that I asked Jesus to come into my heart when I was only 4 years old. But when I was 9 years old, and sitting in my Sunday School class listening to my favorite teacher praying, I suddenly realized that I could not remember telling Jesus that I wanted to live for him. That conviction caused me to stand up in front of all my friends and say that I wanted to spend my life following Jesus forever.  It’s been an adventure ever since.

Thank you so much for joining us for our link-up!

And now some posts that were highlights for me this past week:

This week fa truly set in and we also finally got some much-needed rain. When I say fall set in, I want to be clear that the temps didn’t necessarily get cooler. In fact, it was humid and sticky most days as the rain came in.

The trees are changing beautifully but I am sad that the leaves are already almost the way off our tree in the backyard.

What is the weather like where you are?
