Little Miss was able to meet a friend she’s only talked to online yesterday and they looked for crayfish, or crawfish, or whatever you call these things where you live:

After her friend left, Little Miss stayed at the little stream, which runs through part of the town, determined to capture two of these ugly buggers she saw. She did not catch one because we didn’t have anything to capture in but she is determined to try again another time.

So, what do you call those creatures up above? Crayfish, crawfish? Something else?

Not being much of a fisherman, I’m not sure what term to use. I can remember fishing Montana’s Madison River when I was 4th or 5th grade. My friend’s grandpa showed us how to capture Hellgrammites, who were hiding under rocks in the riverbed.

I’ve heard both crawdads and crayfish, but I remember calling them crayfish over here in western PA. Either way, I think they’re ugly little critters.

Hmm in Australia we call them Yabbies – if they are the same. And I wonder what a Crawdad was and if they do indeed sing?

They might be the same but everything is just bigger, scarier, and more deadly in Australia, so they probably are too. 😉😂😂

At first, I was going to say crawfish, but then I saw Bettie G’s comment. I’m originally from NE Indiana, too, and we did call them crawdads! I don’t remember catching any, but we didn’t live near any water. I think they call them crayfish somewhere. My husband was on a business trip, and the people at a table near him were eating them. They saw him watching and offered him one. He politely said no thanks!

We called them crawdads in rural Northeastern Indiana where I grew up! And my brother was pretty good at catching them, or any other wild thing for that matter! Thank you for stirring sweet memories. 🤗🤗

You’ll have to give us some tips on how you did it. Remembering you in our prayers as you remember him.

I think my brother used a net to catch them. My friend and I caught one that way, but we screamed and threw it back in! Lol
