Weekend Traffic Jam Reboot for May 29

Welcome to the Weekend Traffic Jam Reboot, where we offer a place for bloggers to link up and get a fresh set of eyes on their posts. We also feature one blog a week, letting our readers know about the blog and providing a link so readers can learn more about it. I share old movie clips on Facebook and Instagram, and while the majority of the comments on them are positive and uplifting, sometimes mean and out of line ones slip through. It’s weird how we humans tend to focus on the negative, because I find myself getting down about those negative comments, even though most comments are positive. My latest strategy is simply to delete them and move on.

I really do enjoy the nicer comments where someone shares how they loved watching a movie with a loved one who has passed on or who just shares a happy memory in general.

Alas, not all people are pleasant so I just have to take the good with the bad. The best thing about the negative comments is that I am learning to let things go more and let the miserable people be miserable. It’s teaching me to protect my peace and take longer breaks or just delete the comments altogether if they are too horrible.

A little about Beth:

I live in the South Bay, in a suburb of Los Angeles. We’re about a mile and a half from the Pacific Ocean as the crow flies. We live in a 1969 typical California tract house (bought in 1988) that we have remodeled. I am a wife, mother, Nana, retired librarian, blogger, professional genealogist, tablescaper, gardener, and cat lover. I have created over 300 themed tablescapes that are posted here on my blog under the heading Tablescapes. I am married to my high school sweetheart and I have a daughter and two sons and six grandchildren. I spend my time researching my ancestors, tablescaping, gardening, reading, spending time with family, and trying to organize decades of stuff. We bought a small mountain cabin in the Sierra Nevada mountains a few years ago, and I will be spending time up there and maybe blogging about it too.

This has been a rough week that ended up with a good ending. The short version of a very long story is that our old cat who got sick last week disappeared Sunday. I announced on this blog I was certain she was dead for various reasons.

Weekend Traffic Jam Reboot May 8

When you post online, you expect people to be mean these days, but when they are, it still sometimes can be a shock or sting. Especially when what they are upset about isn’t that big of a deal.

Today I opened up my Facebook page and I had spelled the name of a celebrity featured in a video I shared wrong and instead of politely telling me I had made an error a person wrote, “Gerald McRaney would appreciate you spelling his name right.”

The person who wrote that seemed to be a woman in her 60s or 70s, someone who should know better, and I was shocked by how nasty it was that I actually teared up. It wasn’t necessarily that it was directed at me that hurt me, it was that it reminded online how cruel, hurtful, and mean people can really be. I didn’t even know this person. They don’t know me. Why would they speak that way to me?

I went offline for much of the day after that, but when I was online, I focused on being kinder in my responses and reactions to people so I won’t be like that woman, who is spreading negativity and making people feel awful.

I also stopped and thought about the times in the past that I have lashed out at people because I was annoyed about something else. I made a mental note to be/do better in the future.

Weekend Traffic Jam Reboot April 10

This week has been a bit crazy. Last Friday the youngest cat was sprayed with a skunk. It was an ordeal to get him bathed and then there is this whole thing with him crying in the middle of the night, waking The Husband, who has a hard time going back to sleep and is tired for work the next day.

On Monday his eye became goopy. On Tuesday we called the vet who said they could give us some ointment without us driving 45-minutes for him to be seen. They agreed to mail it but that didn’t happen until Wednesday.

Today the second eye became infected, so it looks like we have to drive to the vet tomorrow to get the ointment instead of waiting for the one they mailed to arrive. There are pros to living in a rural area but there are also a lot of cons.
